Hello & Pinterest Challenge!

Welcome to my new page; where I can blab on about things other than food – not that I wasn’t already, but now I won’t subject you to so much rambling when I share recipes. Here I can share some more “goings on” so that our family and friends know we’re doing something with our lives and not acting like slobs on the couch. Hmm…which means I probably shouldn’t mention I am sitting in my pjs while writing this should I? I don’t know how this page will progress, or how often I will update it. But I’m happy it’s in existence now. Now when I want to document something I don’t want to forget (or that I want to share with all of you), I have a space for this. We’ll see what happens.

One of my main motivations for starting this was the fact that we have purchased a brand spanking new town house. So new in fact, that it’s not even built yet. This is our first dive into real estate and we’re really excited. And nervous. And irked that we had to pay our hard-earned down-payment in January – and we won’t even move-in until July/August. Just think of the interest we could have gotten over 7/8 months! Blerg. Oh well, I guess the developers thought our faces weren’t trustworthy enough to believe we really, truly would pay up once our home was complete. I’ll post some progress on our town house over here if you’re interested in seeing how things are coming along.

For this first post I thought we’d tackle the Pinterest Challenge – a seasonal, DIY, no-winner challenge started by two wonderful bloggers: Sherry at Young House Love and Katie at Bower Power. Basically the ladies thought it was about time they took a break from just pinning everything that they found inspiring, and actually putting that inspiration into action. I’m sure any of you on Pinterest can relate to the numerous pins we all have that sit on boards, waiting for the chance to arouse our creativity. But can any of you honestly say you’ve done anything with more than half your pins? I’ve only been on Pinterest for about 2 months, but I will admit that not much has been accomplished (other than a few new cleaning tricks….wooooooo! the excitement).

I won’t go into detail about explaining the challenge, because I think your index finger is quite capable of clicking here and reading Sherry’s description. One thing I will mention is the challenge is intended to be one week: from Wednesday March 7 to Wednesday March 15. Well, I may be able to tackle some food-related pins in a few days, but my goals for some other DIY posts are unlikely to be done before the deadline. The first one being assisting my friend with painting the vanity cupboards in her bathroom (a test for when she takes on the task of painting her kitchen cabinets this summer). I pinned some inspiration for her on my board, and she’s pinned a few others on hers.

Mini Kitchen Makeover from Centsational Girl

Stay tuned for a post about our adventures in painting cabinets – but don’t expect it this Wednesday! I still want to create something from my pinboards though. I took a look through and unfortunately most of my pinning is in anticipation of moving into our new home. I’m not about to paint tables in our little apartment or outside at -20ºC, nor am I going to build a bookshelf for under our non-existent stairs. And a lot of my other pins are just reminders for something I want, not something I’ll make. I’m feeling a teensy bit defeated, but I’ll take on something small for now and will look forward to upcoming Pinterest Challenges!

What will I do? I’m deciding between 2 things (maybe I’ll just do both) that will likely only take a fraction of my weekend: a home-made scrub and/or a way to preserve random memories throughout the year(s). Here is my inspiration:

Warm Vanilla Sugar & Coconut Body Scrub from Bath.Body.DIY

Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub from Under the Table and Dreaming

Postcard Calendar Journal from Kate Pruitt on Design Sponge

Memory Jar from Inchmark

Check back next Wednesday when I reveal my DIY craftiness. If you feel inspired to take on the challenge, why not share with us what you have done – or blog about it on your own blog. Just remember to credit the original source of the pin, not just the pin itself when you write about your adventures in DIY. Now I better get to pinning so I have more ideas for the next challenge…
